On-a-mat-o'-meaning
On-a-mat-o'-meaning is a game where you can explore how the sound of a word influences its meaning. You can create new words that attempt to sound like the thing they are describing, and then go on to change the words to make them fit the definitions better. The game makes you think about how much a word draws its meaning from its sound (and spelling), and how much of the meaning is drawn from context.
How it works
- you will need to enter your name, to personalise the game
- the game has three main interaction areas, 6 meaning s of words, plug in between and word box (which require your input)
- there are six different meanings; for each meaning you have to type words that match those meanings. You then use the plug to connect the words with the meanings
- once you have plugged in all the plugs you are asked to look at your words again; do you think you could make a better meaning for your word? The game allows you to type any changes and plug all the plugs again
- once you have plugged all the plugs the game give you to create two new meaning and words . This is optional : you can click finish if you choose
- when you click the finish button the game displays your work, you can print the results
